Free Excel betting tracker spreadsheet

Improve your betting performance with this free Excel betting tracker spreadsheet. Making money with sports betting is not just about accurately predicting future games, precisely analyzing your historical betting performance is just as important. Use the past to your advantage by keeping track of all your historical bets. This will help you find out which bets are most profitable for you.

*Note – This guide includes a handy Excel spreadsheet (download link on the bottom of this page). By using this Excel betting tracker spreadsheet you can immediately start keeping track of your bets!

► Why use a betting tracker spreadsheet?

When actively placing many sports bets (across multiple bookmakers) the danger of losing overview of your betting performance is always lurking. Yes, you might still know how much money you have made (or lost) in general. But does that tell the whole story? What about a more detailed analysis of your bets?

For example, do you often ask yourself whether your performance has changed over the last months? And which sport is more profitable for you: football, darts or tennis? If you don’t have an answer the above questions right away, I can already tell that you will heavily benefit from a sophisticated sports betting tracker. Since I know that creating such a betting tracker spreadsheet will take some time, I have decided to generalize my own Excel betting tracker for you. By downloading this Excel spreadsheet you only have to fill in your bets, and this spreadsheet will automatically analyze your betting performance. Cool, right? Let’s quickly show some more specifics of this betting tracker!

► First – Analyze your overall performance

On the first tab of the Excel betting tracker spreadsheet you will be asked to enter your bets. Some fields are required, others are optional. Filling in more fields will improve the performance analysis of this betting tracker. After filling in the specifics of your bets, the Excel spreadsheet will automatically calculate all the relevant performance measures.

Now let’s take my historical betting performance as an example. As you can see from the below image, I have not made significant profits in total, although my results have improved over the last ±200 matches.

Overall betting profit

The profits that we observe from the above image are not very inspiring. It seems as if I am not able to significantly outperform the bookmakers. However, what if I would analyze my betting performance in more detail? For example, how much money do I make per bookmaker, or per sport?

► Next – Detailed betting performance analysis

With the sports betting tracker (download this Excel spreadsheet on the bottom of this page) we can track our betting performance in detail. Everything is automatically calculated after filling in the specifics of your bets. The betting tracker spreadsheet includes the following performance analysis:

  • Analyze your Overall performance.
  • Analyze your performance over the last Week, Month, Year, …
  • Analyze your performance per Bookmaker.
  • Analyze your performance per Sport.
  • Analyze your performance per Tournament.
  • Analyze your performance per Betting Market.

Let’s now look at my performance in more detail. For example, what if we would visualize how much money I have made per sport? Remember: my total profit is equal to £312.

Betting profit per sport

It is obvious that my performance in the darts betting markets is best. I have also made some money with betting on football matches. However, tennis predictions don’t seem to be accurate enough. Now if we would not have placed any bets on tennis matches, my profit would already have been equal to £423. That’s an increase in profit of more than 35 percent. Huge difference, isn’t it? Now what if we take our analysis even one step further, and look at my performance per tournament?

Betting profit per tournament

As you can see I only bet on darts matches during the PDC World Championship. Now what if we look at the football tournaments? I can immediately observe that the Italian Serie A and the German Bundesliga are the most profitable competitions. Concluding, what if I would only bet on the PDC World Championship (Darts), the Serie A (Football) and the Bundesliga (Football)? My profit would increase to £545, which is an increase of 75 percent (!) with respect to my overall profit.

Concluding – Why use a betting tracker spreadsheet? ◄

Now the point is that if you analyze your performance in more detail, it can turn out to be very fruitful. Analyze your performance in detail, look for bets where you might have that edge over the bookies.

► Beware of the dangers of overfitting

Take caution for the following, though. If you will analyze your historical betting performance long enough, I am quite sure that you will find a profitable filter eventually. However, don’t overdo this! When searching for your most profitable types of sports games, it is best to keep your filters somewhat general. Why? Because you want to prevent overfitting at all times!

Overfitting? What is that?

Overfitting simply means that you have modelled your previous bets too well. For example, you might have found that you have made the most money by betting on football matches that played on Saturday evening by teams starting with the character ‘A’. This is an extreme example, but the point should be clear. Always take caution of overfitting. Your filters should make sense from a logical point of view.

From my own experiences I know it is tempting to find that ‘optimal’ filter, but this could turn out terribly wrong in practice. Keep in mind that your actual goal is not to model the past, but to accurately predict your future performance!

In order to help you I have reduced the risk of overfitting by keeping my betting tracker spreadsheet relatively basic. If you simply follow the performance analysis of this betting tracker, you will probably be fine. Don’t forget to use your common sense as well, though!

    1. Hi Theo, good comment. This is something that I have not yet implemented in the spreadsheet, but it is something I might add in the future. However, one reason for not implementing this feature so far is the fact that – from a statistical point of view – multigame slips are not as smart as it seems.
